Barricade Redesign for the City of Edmonton Department of Transportation
This project was selected by a jury and is currently being implemented by the City of Edmonton Department of Transportation. A limited draw was built and several of these barricades can be found throughout the city. The design was selected for its aesthetic qualities and build quality.
A full-scale prototype was built by our student group and tested by employees from the Department of Transportation. The test consisted of a city employee pulling the barricade prototype off a truck bed and tossing it onto icy pavement. The second part of the test was to throw the barricade as roughly as possible.
Below: We were the only group to explore and propose different methods of loading the barricades onto the truck bed, as well as designing stacking methods. Our research and analysis found that transporting the barricades was one of the most significant costs to the Transportation Department.
